Telecommunications discount provider International Telcom Ltd., Seattle, WA, has increased its transatlantic capacity by buying an E1 (2.048-Mbit/sec) cable on cantat-3 (Canadian Transatlantic Cable) from Teleglobe International. The cable is expected to increase the company`s transmission capabilities to Europe, since it provides a direct fiber-optic connection between its New York and London Nortel dms-250 switches. The London switch will serve as the company`s European hub for intra-European and international traffic. Says Michael Tyler, director of network planning at International Telcom, "It is becoming increasingly evident that owning network resources along certain routes is more economical than leasing."
