Avici Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: AVCI), a provider of scalable core routing solutions for intelligent IP-over-optical networks, announced the availability of its OC-192c/STM-64 or 10 Gigabits per second (Gbps) line card for the TSR. Up to 20 OC-192c ports can be installed in a single TSR chassis.

The introduction of the OC-192c, or "concatenated," module builds on Avici's currently shipping channelized OC-192 product offering, which supports four multiplexed 2.5-gigabit channels on a single 10-gigabit link.

Also announced was Avici's dual port OC-48c module that extends the number of OC-48c ports per TSR chassis from 40 to 80 for unmatched port density. Both the OC-192c and dual port OC-48c line cards are available first quarter 2001.

Avici's new OC-192c and OC-48c modules do not require changes to installed systems chassis, providing investment protection and true plug-and-play support. The new line cards are supported by Avici's Composite Link feature, which enables customers to dynamically aggregate up to 16 OC-192c interfaces to create 160 Gbps connections between routers. This feature simplifies IP routing table entries and enables upgrades from OC-48c to OC-192c while the link is in service, eliminating the network disruption usually associated with connection upgrades.

Avici's TSR, a highly reliable and scalable platform capable of in-service upgrades, enables carriers to provision bandwidth as they need it. With the TSR, Avici is capitalizing on the rapidly expanding market opportunity for core routers.
