Sprint provides customers with access to more bandwidth for data-intensive applications

Sept. 13, 2001--Sprint announced its DWDM-based service which allows customers with very high bandwidth needs to secure wavelengths of fiber, as opposed to leasing, purchasing or installing dark fiber.

Sprint (NYSE: FON, PCS) announced the availability of Sprint Direct Wave Services (DWS) -- a DWDM (Dense Wave Division Multiplexing)-based service which allows customers with very high bandwidth needs to secure wavelengths of fiber, as opposed to leasing, purchasing or installing dark fiber.

Customers with large network capacity requirements, including carriers and enterprises, can employ Sprint DWS to support their diverse business needs, or a wider range of services, such as high-bandwidth mainframe connections. In addition, Sprint DWS gives customers the freedom to use the circuit as they choose with multiple protocols.

Sprint's DWS offering uses DWDM technology that transmits digitized information over different wavelengths of light within the same fiber. Each wavelength is a high-speed channel. Leasing one or more channels on a DWDM system from Sprint gives bandwidth-hungry customers a better choice than purchasing, leasing or installing dark fiber themselves, which can be costly and complicated.

Sprint Direct Wave Services are for point-to-point connections and access to the Sprint Link network.
