EPIK Communications announces IP-on-Wave OC-192 backbone

Apr. 12, 2001--EPIK Communications Incorporated, the telecommunications subsidiary of Florida East Coast Industries, Inc. announced the launch of its next generation IP-on-Wave OC-192 backbone.

EPIK Communications Incorporated (EPIK), the telecommunications subsidiary of Florida East Coast Industries, Inc. (NYSE:FLA)(NYSE:FLA.b) (FECI) announced the launch of its next generation IP-on-Wave OC-192 backbone. EPIK will now offer high performance IP services on its 10 Gigabit network, which connects Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville and Atlanta.

Last month, EPIK announced its plan to offer Internet Protocol (IP) services through an integrated portfolio of enlightened IP services on its OC-192 IP backbone. EPIK is now providing to its customers a suite of IP services that includes Dedicated Internet Access and Ethernet Transport. EPIK's Ethernet Transport service enables customers to connect multiple sites using an Ethernet connection of 100Mbps or 1Gbps. In the future, EPIK plans to introduce 10Gbps Ethernet service. EPIK will also offer IP Virtual Private Network (IP VPN) and other advanced IP services later in the year.

Airwire.net, Inc. is EPIK's first Dedicated Internet Access IP customer with a Fast-Ethernet (100Mbps) connection.
