RSoft, Inc. announced the availability of LinkSIM Version 3.0, the newest version of their optical link-level modeling and simulation software. LinkSIM's enhancements enable users to design and analyze links in optical telecommunication and broadband fiber optic systems using the latest sources, components, and fiber effects including Raman amplification and vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) modeling.

LinkSIM is a user-friendly, optical communication system simulation package that features sophisticated component modeling and simulation analysis capabilities including an object-oriented topology layout facility and waveform simulation engine. The software has a wide variety of applications including telecommunications, datacom, WDM and TDM systems, optical LANs, parallel optical interconnects and free space optical interconnects. A detailed summary of the new LinkSIM upgrade follows, in the attached document.

LinkSIM, Version 3.0 technical feature enhancements include:

* significantly expanded single-mode, nonlinear fiber model that includes intra-pulse Raman scattering, user-specified frequency-dependent loss, nonlinearity and Raman gain profiles, and nonlinear interactions between noise and signal fields;

* a new bi-directional Raman amplifier model, including sophisticated facilities for handling Rayleigh backscattering and spontaneous emission;

* a new and comprehensive VCSEL model that includes both spatial and thermal effects accounting for important VCSEL behaviors such as spatial hole burning, lateral carrier diffusion, thermally dependent gain, and thermal carrier leakage;

* an upgraded receiver model with an enhanced treatment of signal-spontaneous and spontaneous-spontaneous ASE beat noise;

* a suite of new analog and electrical simulation models, including bi-directionally coupled S-blocks;

* enhanced treatment of polarization for cw signals and additional polarization models;

* and, more diagnostic options for power, eye analysis, and spectrum plotting.

To celebrate the release of its new LinkSIM Version 3.0 software, RSoft will be offering promotional discounts on new purchases of the product through July 31, 2001.
