Sen. Bob Kerry (D-NB) recently introduced the Communications Interoperability Act of 1995 (S.710) to promote interoperability among communications networks. The legislation is intended to direct the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Federal Communications Commission to monitor the voluntary standards-setting process and help private-sector standards-setting bodies identify and promote interface specifications.
