Dätwyler Cables intros two-stage FO distributor concept

MARCH 18, 2008 -- The distribution and termination of high-density fiber-optic cables in distributor boxes and on IT racks has been a complex and space intensive task, due to the large size of the distributor heads and the many fiber-optic connectors. To mitigate this problem, Dätwyler Cables says it is now offering its pre-terminated loose tube cables with a new, two-stage FO distributor concept. This enables a simpler, more compact installation and far clearer cable routing, claim company representatives.

Pre-terminated fiber-optic cables are used in LAN and computer center cabling in particular because factory-assembled connectors and adaptors have optimal attenuation capacities, resulting in shorter assembly times on site.

The new fiber-optic distributor concept offered by Dätwyler Cables has high-fiber, pre-terminated loose tube cables that are divided at the factory over two or three spare conduits, each with four 12-fiber bundles, i.e., each bundle contains 48 fibers.

These very small distributor heads easily fit into a standard 1 height unit housing with 24 ports (LC duplex or SC duplex adapters) in each case. By using routing frames, 96 or 144 fibers can be terminated with only two or three 19-inch standard housings, resulting in extremely neat patch cable routing, claims the company. Dätwyler Cables delivers these pre-terminated FO cables with protective tubes that can be easily removed during on-site installation.
