JANUARY 15, 2008 -- US Conec (search for US Conec) has announces the immediate availability of its new Durofan low smoke-zero halogen (LSZH)-rated breakout kits. These breakout kits are made from materials that will not produce toxic or combustible gases if exposed to high heat sources.
According to the company, the Durofan LSZH kits enable users to separate out the individual fibers from a ribbon for connectorization to simplex or duplex style connectors. Ideal applications may include high-fiber-count ribbon cable assemblies that require single-fiber connections.
The Durofan LSZH breakout kit uses a molded snap fit transition body that easily routes and protects the 250-micron fibers after separation from the ribbon. The breakout kit is available for eight- or 12-fiber counts and comes in colors aqua, orange, and yellow.
The individual legs are constructed with an outer jacket covering a layer of dielectric strength members that surround an inner furcating tube, reports the company. The individual fibers that have been separated from the ribbon are neatly transitioned into the individual legs using the holes on the transition body. The legs have an outer diameter of 2.0 mm, which is compatible with industry-standard connector hardware. Each leg is securely fastened to the transition body. According to the company, this heavy duty construction makes the Durofan LSZH breakout kit more robust when compared to 900-micron fan out kits or 250-micron bare fibers. The un-terminated kits come standard with 1 meter jacketed legs available for eight- and 12-fiber counts in yellow, orange, or aqua.
The LSZH -rated breakout kits have been tested to IEC 61034 and BS EN50268 for measuring smoke density; IEC 60754-2 and BS EN 50267 for measuring gases evolved during combustion; and to IEC 60332-3 for vertical flame spread. The individual legs are preinstalled to the transition body and are rated for a maximum installation tensile load of 150N. The kit's legs have an operational temperature range of -20 ° C to +60 ° C.
