Fiberail continues network expansion with Alcatel-Lucent
MAY 27, 2008 -- Fiberail Sdn Bhd, Malaysia's leading fiber-optic network operator, and Alcatel-Lucent (search for Alcatel-Lucent) today announced the expansion of Fiberail's existing network. Based on Alcatel-Lucent's optical technology, the network will provide Fiberail with enhanced capacity, flexibility, and scalability to address the bandwidth needs of its diversified customer base, including managed network service providers, global operators, discounted voice operators, broadcasting operators, and financial sectors. Alcatel-Lucent is also providing deployment and maintenance as part of the expanded
contract.
Alcatel-Lucent says its optical equipment enables Fiberail to extend its network along the railway corridor in both the western and eastern part of the Malaysian peninsula, as well as along the gas pipeline corridor on the east coast. By increasing the network's capacity to carry voice, data, and video traffic over a single platform, Alcatel-Lucent says it will help Fiberail cost-effectively address customer demand for advanced business applications such as Ethernet-based services as well as popular residential applications like triple play.
"This investment is timely as we strive to be the preferred communication solutions provider in Malaysia," notes N. Balasingham, CEO of Fiberail. "Not only will we be able to offer more services, but we will be able to offer a more reliable service, with minimal outages and the ability to rapidly restore service because of the flexibility and resiliency of this network technology. With our consistent investments to upgrade and expand our communications infrastructure, Fiberail aspires to provide access to leading-edge technology to our customers and to remain a leader in the industry."
"This is a breakthrough for Alcatel-Lucent as it marks the beginning of an exciting business relationship with Fiberail," adds Frederic Rose, president of Alcatel-Lucent's activities for Europe, Asia, and Africa. "Our market-leading optical solutions will help Fiberail achieve the network flexibility and scalability it needs to support existing and future service demands."
The new project is based on Alcatel-Lucent's 1626 Light Manager and 1696 Metrospan, managed by the 1350 network management system.
