Fiber-optic modems
Series OPTO-232SL fiber-optic modems use optical fibers to transfer RS-232 data for point-to-point applications. Single-channel modems use an SMA optical connector (OPTO-232SL/S) or an ST connector (OPTO-232SL/ST). The four-channel OPTO-232C/S and OPTO-232C/ST models support SMA and ST connectors, respectively. Duplex optical ports are available for the four-channel models. All are powered by an external plug-in power supply or by the data terminal itself through a male DB-25 pin connector. The 2.13 ¥ 0.63 ¥ 2.20-inch, 1.6-ounce modems consist of a pair of units, each containing a male DB-25 pin connector. The units cover a bandwidth from DC to 64 kbits/sec, use 2-fiber cable and are switchable between data communications or data terminating equipment operation. Standard transmission distance over which these modems are effective is 20 cm to 3 km. Operating temperature is -20° to +70°C. Pricing for 100 pieces is $150 per unit.
