Depolarizers

Sept. 1, 1999

All-fiber, passive, Lyot-type depolarizers for broadband (greater than 5 nm) optical sources at 980 and 1480 nm have an insertion loss of less than 0.5 dB with no moving or electrical parts. The light, ruggedized devices provide light with DOP less than 1% and are insensitive to input polarization changes.
