SEPTEMBER 20, 2006 -- VPIphotonics, a division of VPIsystems (search for VPIsystems), will demonstrate its VPItransmissionMaker and VPIcomponentMaker Version 7.1 photonic design software and offer application highlights at ECOC in Cannes, France.

VPItransmissionMaker and VPIcomponentMaker are designed to define the simulation standard for photonic systems. Version 7.1 provides a mixture of design process and numerical modeling advances that speed the construction, evaluation and visualization of complex simulation tasks.

Among others, Version 7.1 supports:

  • analytic and semi-stochastic BER estimation for ASK-, DPSK-, and DQPSK-type modulation
  • electronic dispersion compensation (EDC) using DFE/FFE and Viterbi equalization
  • complete bidirectional and polarization-sensitive fiber propagation with CD, Kerr, PMD, SRS, SBS, and RS
  • statistical multimode fiber modeling
  • electrical mQAM-OFDM Tx/Rx for radio-over-fiber systems
  • dedicated signal performance analysis for CATV and radio-over-fiber systems
  • combination of signals with aperiodic and periodic boundary conditions in time.
Version 7.1 comes with VPIphotonicsAnalyzer, a data visualization and analysis tool that works with optical, electrical, and numerical inputs. VPIphotonicsAnalyzer provides significant enhancements to the usability and capabilities of the VPIphotonics product range. The signal can be shown and analyzed in six modes. OSA, Scope, Eye, RFSA, and Poincare mode are designed to work with optical and electrical signals as provided by VPIcomponentMaker and VPItransmissionMaker. Numerical mode is designed to work with ordinary numerical data in integer and float form.

New demonstrations have been added to illustrate the functionality and applications of the new features and modules. Additionally, several existing demonstrations have been improved to reflect the changes. There are over 500 demonstrations available in the products now.

Visitors to the VPIsystems booth (Booth 656) can learn about the Photonics Curriculum, a free package of course material including lecture notes and laboratory exercises for academic teaching programs for partners in the VPIsystems University Program.
