OCTOBER 11, 2006 -- At Broadband World Forum, held this week in Paris, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. (search Huawei), unveiled its new Terabit SmartAX FTTx platform, which supports both GPON and VDSL2.
With the popularity of broadband access services and the launch of high-bandwidth services such as Video-on-Demand (VoD), Internet games, and IPTV, optical fiber access (FTTx) development is critical. Huawei says it has launched the new platform to meet this demand.
The Terabit SmartAX supports GPON and VDSL2 to deliver more flexible services, say company representatives. Based on 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10-GbE) architecture, the new platform also supports the smooth evolution from GbE to 10-GbE. According to the company, it features excellent scalability, robust IP features, and serviceability to fulfill the multi-service demands of ultra-high bandwidth applications and substantially reduce operators' operating expenses.
By the end of April 2006, Huawei's access equipment had been operating in 100 million subscriber lines around the world. Huawei reports that it has been consistently investing in access network applications and, to date, has an R&D team of over 1,500 employees focused on this area.
