LuminentOIC selects TriAccess Technologies' RFICs for FTTH applications
MARCH 5, 2007 -- TriAccess Technologies (search for TriAccess Technologies) has signed a multi-year supply agreement with LuminentOIC Inc. (search for LuminentOIC), a wholly owned subsidiary of MRV Communications, to supply radio frequency integrated circuits (search for RFIC) used in GPON FTTH networks.
TriAccess will supply LuminentOIC with the latest version of its TAT6254 series RFIC, which integrates multiple RF amplifiers on a single chip and provides what the company claims is superior high gain and low noise performance that is ideal for end-of-line fiber networks. LuminentOIC plans to incorporate the TriAccess 6254 RFIC in triplexer transceivers installed within optical network terminals (ONTs).
LuminentOIC will be the lead customer for the next product release in the TriAccess TAT6254 product series for GPON applications and has committed to purchase significant volume of this device, say TriAccess representatives. In addition, as part of this agreement, LuminentOIC has attained exclusive rights to the TAT6254 product series for all BPON applications. LuminentOIC has been the dominant supplier of BPON triplexers to the North American market, with over 1.3 million triplexers shipped. The company claims it has leveraged this market leadership into the North American GPON deployment, with over 100,000 units shipped to date.
"We are pleased to be working with the leader in triplexer transceiver deployments," contends Chris Day, president of TriAccess Technologies. "With LuminentOIC's RF implementation expertise and design-for-manufacturing experience, we see a strong synergy between our firms as they use our IC solution."
"We chose the TriAccess RFIC technology both for improved signal quality and to enable more flexible network deployment in cable TV RF overlay fiber-to-the-home applications," adds Near Margalit, CEO of LuminentOIC.
According to TriAccess representatives, the TAT6254Eproducts allow reduced signal levels to be amplified cleanly with minimal distortion, enabling operators to build networks with additional reach while facilitating faster and more economical buildout techniques.
