MAY 7, 2007 -- Fresh off of changing its name, PhyFlex Networks (search for PhyFlex Networks) has announced a pair of partnerships. One aimed is at Korea; the other focuses on interoperability and collaboration.

In the first pairing PhyFlex, which recently announced it had changed its name from Narad Networks, says it will partner with Entropic Communications Inc. (search for Entropic Communications) as part of a joint trial with World Multi-Net Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Kangnam Cable in Korea. The Korean cable operator is trialing a combined PhyFlex and Entropic offering to power residential high-speed data services.

The Kangnam Cable trial at the MSO's facilities will begin in May using Entropic Communications' c.LINK Access technology integrated with PhyFlex's FTTxSWITCH Ethernet switch. PhyFlex says its Carrier Ethernet access platform provides high-quality Ethernet transport from the MSO's fiber core out to the edge of the access network. At the edge, Entropic's point-to-multipoint system over coax, which runs in frequencies above 860 MHz and doesn't interfere with CATV, provides a highly economical means of delivering significant additional bandwidth over existing coax plant, it adds.

The FTTxSWITCH is a new product, designed to be a flexible, hardened outdoor access and aggregation Carrier-Ethernet switch that facilitates performance-sensitive applications over any physical media: fiber, coax, Ethernet/RJ-45, and wireless. It supports Gigabit Ethernet over each of six fiber/Ethernet ports and 100Mbps Ethernet over each of four coaxial cable ports.

Meanwhile, company also has announced it has entered into an interoperability partnership with ADVA Optical Networks (search for ADVA Optical Networking). The partnership aims to help extend the reach of Ethernet services by simplifying and speeding the deployment of intelligent Ethernet equipment for cable operators and service providers. As part of ADVA Optical Networking's Etherjack Alliance interoperability agreement, PhyFlex Networks and ADVA Optical Networking will collaborate to deliver end-to-end Carrier-Ethernet product combinations that include the FTTxSWITCH and the ADVA FSP 150 family of intelligent Ethernet access and demarcation products.
