MAY 28, 2007 -- Alpheus Communications, operator of a fiber-optic network across "metro Texas," says it will provide fiber-based backhaul support for EarthLink's municipal Wi-Fi network in Corpus Christi.

Along with Corpus Christi, EathLink has Wi-Fi initiatives underway in Philadelphia, New Orleans, and Milpitas and Anaheim, CA. The company is also finalizing agreements with the cities of Pasadena and San Francisco, CA; Houston, TX; and Alexandria and Arlington County, VA.

"Alpheus Communications has demonstrated the flexibility and expertise EarthLink requires to help support Corpus Christi's citywide, Wi-Fi network," said Donald Berryman, executive vice president of EarthLink and president of the ISP's municipal networks unit. "Alpheus's solution allows us to utilize their fiber-optic network to backhaul traffic to our POP at a lower cost than over traditional copper connections."

"Corpus Christi has been a leader in implementing Wi-Fi technology to serve the needs of the community," said Paul Hobby, CEO of Alpheus Communications. "We are pleased to be able to partner with EarthLink and utilize our fiber-optic network to support the growing demand for high speed wireless Internet access."
