August 19, 2002--Lucent Technologies announced a series of optical contracts with a combined total of $15 million to supply state-of-the-art optical networking systems to carriers in China's Shanghai, Guangdong and Zhejiang regions.

Lucent Technologies announced a series of optical contracts with a combined total of $15 million to supply state-of-the-art optical networking systems to carriers in China's Shanghai, Guangdong and Zhejiang regions. Lucent will be providing systems to Shanghai Telecom, Guangdong Unicom, Zhongshan Telecom and Zhejiang Telecom.

Lucent will provide equipment, including the LambdaUnite multi-service switch (MSS), a next-generation optical transport system and switch; numerous multi-service metro access products from Lucent's WaveStar family and network management systems from the Navis optical management solutions family.

"Lucent is committed to China, and we're very pleased to be able to serve the nation's leading service providers," said Jason Chi, chairman and president of Lucent China. "Our customers benefit from our complete portfolio of optical networking products that enable them to streamline and improve the efficiency of their networks today and can grow to meet their needs tomorrow."

Lucent will supply Shanghai Telecom with the LambdaUnite MSS, WaveStar DACS 4/4/1, and other multiservice metro access systems to help support network expansion in Shanghai. This is the second publicly announced sale of LambdaUnite, a system that serves as a bridge between data-intensive metro networks and high-speed optical core networks, in China, following the announced contract signed with Sichuan Telecom earlier in the year.

Lucent will provide Guangdong Unicom with the WaveStar ADM 16/1 and WaveStar AM1Plus to support its local SDH network, expanding network capacity to cover the cities of Zhanjiang, Maoming, Yangjiang and Jiangmen in Guangdong Province.

Lucent will provide Zhongshan Telecom with the WaveStar TDM 10G SDH transport system for Zhongshan's 10-Gigabit transport network project. The company will also provide the WaveStar DACS 4/4/1 digital cross-connection equipment and network management systems from the Navis optical management solutions family.

In addition, Lucent will also help Zhejiang Telecom build its local network in Wenzhou by providing the WaveStar ADM 16/1, WaveStar ADM 16/1Compact, WaveStar AM 1 Plus and network management systems.
