The Laser Link transparent 1550-nm transport system for hfc-cable systems is an end-to-end transparent information pipe that uses dwdm narrowcast architecture. Each narrowcast wavelength transmits multiple digitally modulated RF carriers from the headend to the hub, where they are optically combined with the broadcast service to feed a targeted serving area. As a result, digital, RF, and optical processing equipment, such as hdts and optical transmitters, can be eliminated from the hub.
