Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) in Palo Alto, CA, and Cambrian Systems Corp., Kanata, ON, Canada, are developing dense wavelength-division multiplexing (dwdm) solutions for metropolitan access and interoffice networks. The companies are combining their research and development efforts to integrate their respective dwdm components and networking systems. Paul Engle, a worldwide fiber-optics business manager at Hewlett-Packard, says Cambrian`s technical expertise will help bolster HP`s product development efforts. Don Smith, president and chief executive of Cambrian, says that both companies are committed to leadership in dwdm--Cambrian in networking systems and HP in components.
