DukeNet Communications Inc. (Charlotte, NC) selected Nortel (Brampton, ON, Canada) to provide dense wavelength-division multiplexing (dwdm) on its southeastern U.S. optical network through a $10 million agreement. Nortel will provide its s/dms TransportNode OC-48, using dwdm 16-wavelength configuration to carry 40 Gbits/sec of voice, data, and video on a single fiber. The agreement also includes Nortel?s OC-12 (622-Mbit/sec) and OC-3 (155-Mbit/sec) Express systems and Integrated Network Management broadband solution. DukeNet, the telecommunications arm of Duke Energy Corp. (Charlotte, NC), and its partners in the Carolinas FiberNet llc consortium provide a 3300-mi fiber network between North and South Carolina?s main cities and some Virginia areas.
