DWDM transmitter

The ASOC DWDM transmitter is designed for SONET OC-12 and SDH STM-4 (622-Mbit/sec) applications. The wavelength of the transmitter is determined by a Bragg grating formed directly in an on-chip silicon waveguide. The need for post-manufacture tuning of the transmitter is removed. According to the manufacturer, by physically separating the gain element from the wavelength-selecting element, device chirp is reduced, thus decreasing the dispersion experienced by the signal through the fiber. The transmitters retail at less than $1000.
