19 March 2003 -- Telia has deployed Riverstone's RS family of routers to bring the benefits of Ethernet to its region-wide ATM network.
Riverstone's RS 8000 and RS 3000 routers are providing Telia with a high performance solution for delivering IP services.
Hakan Berlin, at Telia, said, "By enabling us to cost effectively expand our ATM network to reach businesses and residents in both urban and rural centers, Riverstone's solutions allow us to deliver IP services over disparate networks."
With Riverstone's ATM circuit extension technology, Telia can extend quality of service over Ethernet networks by mapping multiple virtual LANs (VLANs) to a single virtual circuit (VC) or multiple VCs to a single VLAN.
The combination of Riverstone's RS routers and ATM circuit extension technology gives Telia the ability to deliver full LAN-to-LAN services across its nationwide ATM backbone.
"Telia's dedication to building networks and delivering services that support Sweden's advanced IT community has transformed it into one of the most IT-savvy countries in the world," said Andrew Feldman, Riverstone's vice president of corporate marketing and development.
Telia operates Scandinavia's largest network for telephony, Internet and broadband services. Earlier this year Telia merged with Finland's incumbent provider Sonera to create the Nordic region's dominant telecommunications provider.
