Fusion Communications selects Juniper Networks for VoIP service in Japan

Sept. 25, 2001
Sept. 25, 2001--Juniper Networks, Inc., a provider of next-generation Internet Protocol infrastructure systems, announced that Fusion Communications Corp., a service provider and pioneer in full-scale VoIP services in Japan, has selected Juniper Networks M-series Internet routers for its IP network.

Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR), a provider of next-generation Internet Protocol (IP) infrastructure systems, announced that Fusion Communications Corp., a service provider and pioneer in full-scale voice over IP (VoIP) services in Japan, has selected Juniper Networks M-series Internet routers for its IP network.

Fusion Communications established a flat rate (20 Japanese Yen) for three minutes for both local and long distance calls, 24 hours a day. Before then, the established practice was to charge progressively higher fees for increasingly longer distance calls. Fusion Communications' VoIP service offers high quality, and the number of subscribers has been steadily rising since VoIP was launched in April 2001.

Fusion Communications' IP network connects Osaka to Shinjuku, Tokyo at a line rate of 2.5 Gigabits per second (OC-48c/STM-16). This high-speed backbone connects to another access point in Otemachi, Tokyo's main business center, which is also inter-network access point (IX) capable. Each of the company's 18 access points employs a set of redundant routers to ensure network availability for peak traffic loads, scalability for new customer demands and additional security.

Fusion's network extensibility is possible through the broad deployment of Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS). MPLS helps Fusion deliver numerous intelligent services including VoIP, secure IP Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), and traffic engineering assistance for Internet access and data centers.
