Sigma Networks offer metro area interconnect network services

Apr. 10, 2001--Equinix, Inc., creator and operator of neutral Internet Business Exchange (IBX) centers, and Sigma Networks, an independent, multi-service broadband interconnection provider, announced the availability of Sigma Network's multi-service fiber optic broadband network services in Equinix IBX centers nationally.

(Nasdaq:EQIX), creator and operator of neutral Internet Business Exchange (IBX) centers, and Sigma Networks, an independent, multi-service broadband interconnection provider, announced the availability of Sigma Network's multi-service fiber optic broadband network services in Equinix IBX centers nationally.

As a part of the agreement, service providers and other IBX participants will be able to directly connect to Sigma Networks' fiber optic broadband network within IBX centers located initially in Washington, D.C. and Silicon Valley areas. The agreement extends to additional markets to be named later.

Under the terms of the agreement, Sigma Networks will offer their Metropolitan Area Interconnect Network (MAIN) services to IBX participants which include a wide range of Internet Service Providers, managed service providers, and content providers. Sigma Networks will provide an independent, multi-service broadband fiber optic link between Internet backbone networks, last mile broadband service providers and Internet aggregation points, such as Equinix IBX centers. Sigma's MAIN allows Equinix IBX participants to receive a range of broadband network service choices via a single connection. Sigma Networks' services allow for faster and easier provisioning and extensive network management services via a browser-based OSS. In most cases, bandwidth can be purchased and provisioned in days rather than weeks or months.

Equinix's neutral IBX centers enable enterprises and Internet businesses to quickly, easily, and privately interconnect with a choice of business partners, service providers and customers, providing them with the flexibility, speed, and adaptability they need to accelerate business growth, and improve Internet performance.
