Denver-based Dynegyconnect, L.P., a subsidiary of Dynegy Inc. (NYSE: DYN), a provider of energy and communications solutions, announced an agreement to purchase dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) equipment and services from Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc., a subsidiary of Fujitsu Limited (Toronto: 6702). Under the terms of the agreement, Fujitsu will become the primary DWDM supplier for the nationwide optically switched data network Dynegyconnect is currently developing.
Fujitsu's DWDM technology will increase Dynegyconnect's network capacity by simultaneously transmitting up to 176 channels, each capable of carrying 10 gigabits (billion bits) per second of traffic through a single fiber. Fujitsu will also provide related engineering, furnishing and installation services.
The Fujitsu agreement follows recent agreements with Level 3 (to provide dark fiber and co-location) and with Tellium, Inc. (to supply optical switching devices).
