Belgacom to deploy Sorrento Networks' optical networking solution

Feb. 28, 2001--Sorrento Networks and Belgacom SA/NV announced the deployment of Sorrento's GigaMux optical transport system as part of a managed bandwidth solution of fibre and DWDM.

Sorrento Networks, (Nasdaq: FIBR), a supplier of end-to-end, intelligent optical networking solutions for metro and regional applications, and Belgacom SA/NV, a telecommunications operator for Belgium, announced the deployment of Sorrento's GigaMux optical transport system as part of a managed bandwidth solution of fibre and DWDM. An integral part of the solution to a large Belgian-based bank will be Sorrento's 8-port EPC, a sub-rate multiplexing system based on Sorrento technology recently granted patent protection by the US Patent and Trademark Office.

Sorrento Networks has sold its products to a broad range of customers, including cable companies and MSOs (AT&T Broadband, Cox Communications, United Pan-European Communications), utilities (Southern California Edison, El Paso Global Networks) and incumbent telecommunications operators in Europe (Deutsche Telekom). Sorrento Networks' product portfolio includes optical access, transport, switching and management, and allows service providers to offer a wide variety of services in these markets.
