Optelian has expanded its offerings beyond optical transport equipment to include technical services designed to help network operators roll out networks smoothly to meet time and budget goals.

The new technical services suite covers the entire implementation process, Optelian asserts.

“We offer network design, fiber characterization, installation, configuration, training, and optical power balancing services, along with training on all of these,” said Michel Turcot, Optelian’s manager of Customer Technical Support. “We can also provide additional resources needed on projects or provide training to allow technicians to do it themselves.”

Optelian has already found customers for the new services, pointing to the recent completion of an optical power balancing project for Georgia Public Web, a non-profit facilities-based company that offers Internet access and other telecommunications services to metro Atlanta and communities throughout Georgia.

According to Georgia Public Web Vice-President and CTO Jim Hendrickson, “We just really don’t have enough bodies for the number of nodes that we need to do in a night. It was very beneficial for us and for our customers as we were able to complete our activities during the maintenance window. The service was excellent. The support was impeccable and the people are highly qualified.”
