LG-Ericsson USA has launched a new high-density, 10-gigabit data center switch: the iPECS ES-5048XG 48-port 10G SFP+ Managed Switch.

The new iPECS ES-5048XG 10-gigabit data center switch is available now through LG-Ericsson’s network of resellers and integrators. The 48-port 10G SFP+ managed switch is designed to provide performance, low latency, high energy efficiency, and advanced features, enabling it to play a role in transitioning 10G Ethernet into the data center. Enabling the aggregation of high-density 1U rack servers, the 48-port design of the ES-5048XG offers flexible network connectivity and features that top the requirements lists for next-generation data center design.

Specifically designed to support the Converged Enhanced Ethernet market segment, the new iPECS ES-5048XG offers congestion and traffic management features, such as Congestion Notification and Per Priority Flow Control to support the emerging Fiber Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) solutions for LAN, SAN, and IPC networks.

“We designed this switch from the ground up with the features that business needs in order to make 10Gig Ethernet a viable choice for the data center,” explains LG-Ericsson USA Director of Product Marketing Iain Kenney. “High-density, optimal performance, front-to-back/back-to-front cooling, and front-port configuration make it ideal for interconnecting a large number of 10 gigabit Ethernet links from servers.”

The iPECS ES-5048XG brings advanced switching features like 802.1Qau (QCN) for congestion notification, 802.1Qbb (PFC) for delay-sensitive services, and 802.1Qaz (ETS) to support emerging Data Center Ethernet standards. FIP snooping, FCoE, and ACL provide increased flexibility for FC SAN: Using snooping capability, the ES-5048XG can implement dynamic data integrity mechanisms using ACLs that permit only valid FCoE flows. Support for hot-swappable fan trays, redundant power supplies, and the latest standards in Ethernet networking round out the offering.

The product provides Layer2 features, such as 802.1w RSTP to enable a loop-free network and redundant links to the core network; LACP provides load sharing and fault tolerance for interconnections. Restriction of IP Multicast traffic transmission to the registered members conserves bandwidth and reduces IP multicast traffic for optimal performance. Security is assured with 4K IEEE802.1Q VLANs, port/MAC/subnet/protocol based VLAN, Private VLAN edge, GVRP, GARP, VLAN trunking and QinQ tunnel.
