Meteor MGM is a new family of EDFAs that is backward compatible with existing MGM products used in major long-haul and metro optical networks. The Meteor MGM is an intelligent amplifier that implements dynamic gain control incorporating amplifier spontaneous emission correction with adaptive software control. The smart digital signal processing senses power levels and adjusts them within microseconds, preventing transient effects in dynamic networks caused by the switching of wavelengths. The Meteor MGM family covers the whole of the C and L bands, enabling amplification of up to 160 DWDM channels.
