JUNE 1, 2010 -- MRV Communications Inc. says that Broadview Networks has implemented the Fiber Driver optical multi-service platform to increase the bandwidth on its backbone network. The Fiber Driver will serve as the basis for its network expansion and 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) migration.
Broadview Networks is a network-based business communications provider known for its ability to deliver complete voice and data services to its nationwide small and medium business customers. The success of Broadview’s OfficeSuite hosted IP telephony service and MPLS-based data services brought about a significant increase in its data traffic, MRV relates. To increase the bandwidth on its backbone network, Broadview implemented the Fiber Driver on its regional networks in Boston, New York, and Philadelphia.
The carrier had built a fiber-optics-based SONET network in these regions and needed to simultaneously increase throughput to OC-192 speeds, while also migrating to 10GbE for native transport of its new IP services.
“With the Fiber Driver system in place, we now have the foundation to grow with our customers in a simple, cost-effective way,” said Sanjay Patel, vice president of technology for Broadview Networks. “MRV’s extensive knowledge and experience in transport optics, coupled with its ability to focus in on our specific needs, provided a very smooth transition, and we look forward to working with MRV as we continue to evolve our transport network to meet the changing needs of our customers.”
The Fiber Driver network enables Broadview to move cost-effectively to a DWDM network. Broadview also uses MRV’s Megavision network management software to help it maintain high uptime and to quickly reconfigure its network to meet customer needs.
