Si.mobil boosts mobile network with optical fiber, Nokia Siemens Networks DWDM
JULY 7, 2010 -- Slovenian mobile operator Si.mobil has recently deployed Nokia Siemens Networks’ DWDM optical transport platform to improve data service delivery and network efficiency, the systems house says. The five-year contract also covers services including installation, commissioning and implementation, as well as support and maintenance.
“We wanted to prepare our network to maintain a competitive edge by providing the best services while preparing for the anticipated growth in data traffic,” said Horst Pertl, CTO of Si.mobil. “Nokia Siemens Networks’ scalable optical networks fit our requirements perfectly. Its track record in rapid and cost-effective rollouts made it easy for us to select its optical transport platform.”
Nokia Siemens Networks says its DWDM platform will enable s a high-capacity, optical transport backbone that allows Si.mobil to significantly improve network reliability and scalability at lower costs. Its modularity will enable Si.mobil to respond in a timely way to increasing customer demands, and the common nature of the platform will save staff training time and costs, simplify the carrier’s network, and reduce the number of spare parts that need to be stocked, Nokia Siemens Networks adds.
The equipment vendor’s network management system suite already in use by Si.mobil will be used to optimize the network’s operations through centralized control and supervision.
