APRIL 22, 2010 -- Level 3 Communications Inc. will work with ABC to install its Managed Video Network Services (MVNS) platform into ABC News locations in New York, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C., allowing the broadcaster to move more video and data content with greater efficiency and flexibility.

Under the terms of the three-year contract, Level 3 will install its MVNS offering at each of the ABC News Bureau locations. The first step toward supporting this new service involved extending the Level 3 network directly into ABC’s Broadcast Operations Center in New York City. By bringing ABC on-net, the broadcaster will have direct access to Level 3’s Tier 1 Internet backbone and can scale its services as needed.

Features of the MVNS installation for ABC include:
Video contribution and distribution – The MVNS service itself allows transmission of both video and data from a single platform. This eliminates the time and hassle of shipping video content from location to location and enables faster contribution and sharing of data and video among the three news bureaus.

High-speed IP – Level 3 designed this service to easily scale to meet the needs of the largest consumers of Internet bandwidth. ABC will have high-speed Internet access up to 1GigE at its news bureau locations.

Ethernet Virtual Private Line network (EVPL) – Level 3’s EVPL service will allow ABC to take advantage of cost-effective Ethernet services while providing the flexibility to move ports and circuits between locations, allocate bandwidth by application, and prioritize traffic, among other features.
