MAY 6, 2010 -- MRV Communications Inc. says that The Post Group, an entertainment post-production company, has chosen its TereScope 10 GE (10 Gigabit Ethernet) free-space optics (FSO) platfrom and has become the first announced customer for the system.

The Post Group provides post-production services for film, television, and multimedia projects. When the company faced moving from its single facility to three separate buildings that were blocks apart from each other, it needed a backbone network that could transfer large film and television media files between buildings, MRV says. Initially, IT staff considered implementing a dark fiber network, but it would take months to complete and The Post Group needed a network that could be up and running immediately after the move, according to the systems house. Wanting an approach comparable to its existing 10G LAN backbone, The Post Group decided to implement the TereScope 10GE.

"Speed was critical to this application -- both the fast performance of the network links we wanted to build, but also the installation turnaround time," said Darin Harris, the chief information officer for The Post Group who was responsible for installing the TereScope 10GE. "MRV, and its reseller partners, delivered on both fronts, with the latest FSO technology and by putting together a system that worked immediately even under our compressed timeframe."

The TereScope family of FSO products is designed to provide cost-effective, high-speed wireless connectivity for a variety of last-mile applications.
