FEBRUARY 20, 2007 -- A newly published report by Dell'Oro Group (search for Dell'Oro) asserts that worldwide sales of optical transport equipment reached the highest level in five years during the fourth quarter of 2006. WDM system sales grew 42 percent year-over-year and accounted for all of the market increase.
"We continue to witness a favorable environment for optical transport equipment on a global basis as the urgency to deploy systems with scalability and efficiency highlights WDM transport as a rapidly growing solution for service providers," said Shin Umeda, vice president for optical transport research at Dell'Oro Group. "Within WDM metro we see increasing interest for multi-haul systems, as their range of flexibility provides another key feature in addition to their high bandwidth capabilities."
The Dell'Oro Group Optical Transport Quarterly Report offers coverage of the market with tables covering manufacturers' revenue, average selling prices, unit shipments, tributary/line or wavelength shipments (by speed OC-3/STM-1, OC-12/STM-4, OC-48/STM-16, OC-192/STM-64, OC-768/STM-256, and other). The report tracks DWDM long haul terrestrial, WDM metro, SONET/SDH ADM, SONET/SDH multiservice, and optical switch equipment.
