ADVA Optical Networking says it has completed a joint field trial of its FSP 3000 CloudConnect and OpenFabric technology in Telefónica Germany's live network. The trial was conducted with help from ADVA's partner Axians, specialists in LAN and WAN network setup.
In June ADVA announced new capabilities for its FSP 3000 platform, including FSP 3000 OpenFabric, to align the platform with emerging optical metro network requirements (see "ADVA Optical Networking revamps FSP 3000 for metro networks").The FSP 3000 OpenFabric is an optical transport network (OTN) cross-connect design that ADVA says enables carriers such as Telefónica Germany to efficiently aggregate low-speed services by creating a distributed architecture optimized for the metro.
In the trial, the transport platform reached 100-, 150-, and 200-Gbps connectivity over the mobile communication provider's existing 10-Gbps line system. ADVA says the modular data center interconnect (DCI) system carried alien wavelengths across the national backbone network without affecting live traffic, including error-free 200-Gbps transmission over a 290-km data path.
The FSP 3000 also transmitted disaggregated 100-Gbps signals across 1,300 km without regeneration. Using ADVA's QuadFlex line card to combine two 150-Gbps wavelengths operating at 8QAM within an optical super-channel, ADVA says 300-Gbps capacity was achieved. The field trial involved Telefónica Germany's major metro hubs across the country, including Düsseldorf and Frankfurt, says ADVA.

Without the need for a major network upgrade, we've succeeded in transporting ultra-high-capacity alien wavelengths at distances spanning more than 1,000 km. The FSP 3000 OpenFabric creates an OTN cross-connect optical layer so that lower-speed services can be aggregated onto high-speed wavelengths. This level of flexibility will be instrumental as we look to efficiently provide our customers with the data rates they require."
