Optical add/drop multiplexer
Optical add/drop multiplexer
The Optinex 1640 optical add/drop multiplexer uses dense wavelength-division multiplexing technology to carry 40 signals on each optical fiber. The signals can be any mix of rates to OC-192 (10 Gbits/sec) and can be located on any channel. The device supports unidirectional and bidirectional operation and conforms to both International Telecommunication Union and Bellcore channel plans. The multiplexer can also add/drop eight wavelengths at any site. Wavelength adapters are available that transform any vendor`s sonet equipment to the itu/Bellcore channel plan, making the device suitable for both open and embedded architectures.
