NEC wavelength tunable laser diode module

15 April 2003 Santa Clara, CA Lightwave--California Eastern Laboratories (CEL), NEC's North American sales and marketing partner for optoelectronic and fiber-optic semiconductors, is announcing the availability of a new series of NEC wavelength tunable DFB laser diode modules.

Designed to serve as CW light sources in fiber-optic transmission systems in which external modulators are used, the NX8570 and NX8571 series modules are 8 channel tunable with 50-GHz spacing or 4 channel tunable with 100-GHz spacing. Applicable for DWDM (long haul and metro) and 10-Gbit/sec transponder applications, both modules feature integrated Etalon filters and wavelength monitors. When used with external modulators, these internal wavelength monitors enhance long-term reliability while reducing chirp and mode dispersion, according to the company.

Performance specifications include:

Output Power: NX8570 = 20mW, NX8571 = 10mW

Wavelength Stability E.O.L.: + 20 pm

Wavelength: ITU-T, 50 or 100-GHz Grid

Tunability: 8 channel @ 50 GHz, 4 channel @ 100 GHz

The NX8570 and NX8571 series modules are housed in hermetically sealed, 14-pin butterfly packages with floating anode. They feature internal thermoelectric coolers and isolators for increased efficiency, plus polarization maintain fiber pigtails.
