FiberNet provides 10-Gbit/sec wavelength services to FLAG Telecom Network in New York City
13 May 2003 New York, NY Lightwave--FiberNet Telecom Group, a provider of metropolitan connectivity, announced today it signed a fifteen-year agreement with FLAG Telecom Network USA Ltd. for transport services within the New York City metropolitan area. Included in these services are multiple 10-Gbit/sec metro wavelengths interconnecting four carrier hotel locations in New York and New Jersey. A 10-Gbit/sec wavelength represents the highest capacity of bandwidth commercially available today for a carrier to transport its traffic.
FiberNet completed its deployment of this multi-node, optical network for FLAG in just 44 days. To do so, FiberNet provisioned a new backbone ring on its own metropolitan optical networks and turned up a new point of presence, in an additional carrier hotel. In addition to these wavelength services, FLAG will also utilize FiberNet's in-building network infrastructure for distribution within these carrier facilities to exchange traffic with other carriers.
