Level 3 Communications, Inc., (Nasdaq: LVLT) announced it has signed a multi-year agreement with Adelphia Communications (Nasdaq: ADLAC) and Adelphia Business Solutions (Nasdaq: ABIZ), an American cable and telecommunications company.
Adelphia is using (3)Link Global Wavelength service from Level 3 to enhance the high-speed Internet service it offers to businesses and residential customers throughout North America. Specifically, Adelphia has purchased 2.5-gigabit wavelengths from Level 3 along nine intercity routes connecting Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Francisco, San Jose and Seattle.
With (3)Link Global Wavelength, customers purchase single or multiple wavelengths of light along particular network routes. Level 3 terminates the wavelengths at on-net customer facilities at which customers can use their existing SONET, IP and ATM equipment, thereby reducing costs. (3)Link Global Wavelength services are available in North America, Europe, and on Level 3's transatlantic cable.
Level 3's technology offers speed and reliability to Adelphia's Internet customers in both residential and business applications. In addition to these product enhancements, the agreement presents Adelphia with a method to interconnect its existing cable and CLEC markets in the western half of the United States.
