Progress Telecom, a carrier's carrier of telecommunication services, is expanding its network by announcing the completion of its broadband metro fiber optic network in Miami, FL. Progress Telecom's new metro fiber network provides carriers, Data Centers, ISPs and businesses in greater Miami with reliable connectivity. Their high-speed broadband network serves customers in first, second and third tier markets throughout the Southeastern United States enabling Progress Telecom to provide extensive regional coverage to its customers where it is needed most. Through strategic alliances Progress Telecom also provides its regional customers with a national reach.

The new metro network incorporates strategic points of presence (POPs) where Progress Telecom can pick up and drop off traffic to other carriers. One of these new POPs connects the interim Network Access Point (NAP) of the Americas, where a high volume of Internet traffic is exchanged. Another POP houses major long distance broadband carriers and Internet providers. A third POP connects Progress Telecom's network to Emergia, a Telefonica S.A. Company, handing traffic to its undersea South American SAM-1 Network. This enables Progress Telecom to capitalize on the explosive growth of telecommunications and Internet demand in Latin America that is expected to grow over 40 percent per year through 2005.

Progress Telecom's Miami broadband metro fiber optic network is capable of transporting multiple broadband services with capacities ranging from 45Mbps (DS-3) to 10Gbps (0C-192) and optical wavelength services. Each ring incorporates OC-192 SONET capacity with 10 Gbps Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) and includes several strategic collocation points on the network. The expansion of the Miami metro network allows Progress Telecom to further expand its network and to serve its customers more effectively. Uniquely positioned in the market, Progress Telecom's broadband network includes metro networks in over 25 markets connected by its high speed long haul fiber backbone extending throughout the Southeastern United States and facilitates traffic through network alliances from Boston to Buenos Aires.
