Genuity Inc. (NASDAQ: GENU), a provider of Internet infrastructure services and eBusiness Network Platforms, announced the availability of its new Managed Wavelength Services (MWS).
The 10Gbs MWS is, according to the company, among the largest available in the market, and is the first such service that uses truly next generation DWDM technology. The 10Gbs MWS is being offered to carriers and ISPs as an alternative to building and supporting carrier networks.
Suited for carriers and ISPs looking to extend the reach of their domestic network, Genuity's MWS is designed as a fully managed transport service that gives customers an alternative to buying dark fiber. It enables carriers and ISPs to deflect the investment of capital and human resources in building and supporting a network infrastructure in the U.S. Genuity announced the new service at the spring ISPCON trade show in Baltimore.
Genuity's new MWS incorporates Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology, a fundamental building block of next-generation optical networking. Genuity has deployed the latest long haul DWDM technology that enables the optical transport of 10Gbs signals over 2400km without requiring electrical regeneration. By utilizing high capacity, scalable DWDM technology, Genuity enables its customers to focus on their core competencies, while leveraging Genuity's Optical Network expertise and economies of scale.
Genuity is deploying network technology capable of delivering a 10 Gigabit per second (Gbps) SONET signal for customers to complete network rings, build mesh networks, or simply add additional capacity to existing networks in the U.S. Additionally, the Managed Wavelength Service can be up and running in 30 days.
Genuity is offering Managed Wavelength Services via Nortel Networks OPTera Long Haul 4000 Optical Line System, the first open 10 Gbps Optical Internet DWDM solution that supports 56 wavelengths and a reach of up to 2400 km without electrical regeneration. Through the OPTera Long Haul 4000, Genuity can offer customers rapid wavelength provisioning, enabling quick response to growing bandwidth needs by taking advantage of reduced equipment and engineering requirements.
Genuity provides connections for the wholesale reseller markets. As a provider to a true Tier 1 network, Genuity offers connectivity. Genuity's OC-192 global fiber network, AS-1, delivers transport and transit services for virtually any network deployment requirement. Genuity can help small to large service providers establish connections to their nationwide and worldwide customers. Genuity's reseller options include services such as Dedicated Access, DiaLinx (dial access), VoIP Direct (voice over IP) services, Transport service and Cable Connection Services.
