Fiber-optic mode converter

The fiber-optic mode converter FX connects Escon, ATM, FDDI, token ring or Ethernet networks via one or two singlemode fibers. Signals received from the network on multimode fibers are sent to the other adapter and converter via singlemode fibers at transmission speeds to 200 Mbits/sec. The device also serves as an amplifier to reach distances to 25 and 12 km on singlemode and multimode fibers, respectively. A built-in wavelength multiplexer enables the connection of two networks via one pair of singlemode fibers. Stand-alone models and 19-inch rack-mountable cards are available.
