Optelian MPX-9103 Muxponder earns NEBS Level 3, GR-3108 certification

Optelian says its MPX-9103 hardened service aggregation muxponder has achieved full NEBS Level 3 and GR-3108 certification. The 100-Gbps MPX-9103 can be used in thermally uncontrolled outside cabinets for such applications as 4G and 5G wireless fronthaul and backhaul, fiber-deep architectures, and business services access.

Optelian says its MPX-9103 hardened service aggregation muxponder has achieved full NEBS Level 3 and GR-3108 certification. The 100-Gbps MPX-9103 can be used in thermally uncontrolled outside cabinets for such applications as 4G and 5G wireless fronthaul and backhaul, fiber-deep architectures, and business services access.

Optelian sees such a muxponder with remote 100-Gbps capacity expansion capabilities becoming more important as operators extend their metro rings and push more bandwidth closer to the edge. For additional flexibility the Optical Transport Network (OTN) based MPX-9103 supports multi-protocol client interfaces to aggregate 10-Gbps traffic into 100-Gbps line-side streams. The 1RU system’s ruggedization and thermal management features enable the use of commercial temperature optical transceivers, including CFP-DCO modules, in outside cabinets that are not thermally controlled.

“With increasing network bandwidth demands, it’s critical to bring 100Gbps optical aggregation to the edge of the network. In many cases this means installing optical multiplexers in outside enclosures to get more dedicated bandwidth to the user,” said Scott Agnew, vice president of R&D at Optelian. “Optelian purpose-built the MPX-9103 for outside cabinet deployments. The NEBS and GR-3108 certification provides assurance the MPX-9103 is suited to harsh environments while using commercial grade CFP-DCOs.”
