A new DWDM/PMD monitor provides PMD compensation for transmission systems at 10 and 40 Gbit/s. The device detects PMD changes as small as 0.5 ps over a range of 0 to 100 ps with 2.0-ps accuracy. The monitor detects wavelength changes as small as 0.001 nm with 0.01-nm accuracy and power changes down to 0.1 dB with an absolute accuracy of 0.5 bB. The minimum detectable OSNR change is 0.1 dB to an absolute accuracy of 1.0 dB.
