Optiwave adds nine new models and functionality components to OptiSystem software
March 31, 2004 Ottawa, Ontario -- Optiwave Corp. has added new features to its optical communication systems design software, OptiSystem, including nine new models and functionality components, plus additional tutorials and enhanced documentation.
A new Separated Channels Fiber Model enables simulation of WDM systems with multiple channels. This new model allows users to save time and memory space and takes into account cross-effects of parameterized signals and sampled signals. The new Yb Double Clad Fiber Model enables simulation of double clad fibers doped with Yb, while the User-Defined Filter component allows gain-flattening filters to be optimized by combining the user-defined filter component and the multiple-parameter optimization.
Three new components--CW Laser Measured, Directly Modulated Laser Measured, and WDM Transmitter--allow users to define the number of laser modes, so they can easily simulate the spectral response of Fabry-Perot lasers. The Measured Laser component provides additional parameters and results for laser fitting, enabling users to easily enter measurements that allow OptiSystem to optimize the physical parameters of the laser.
OptiSystem now provides an improved interface with optical component analyzer test and measurement equipment. The Measured Component allows text files of measurements of the Jones matrix to be loaded from component measurements or from files formatted by component analyzer equipment, such as the Agilent 81910A. The Luna Measurements component allows binary files of the Jones Matrix to be loaded from Luna Technologies' OVA component analyzer.
To accommodate the emerging multi-system operator (MSO) optical networking applications, tutorials have been added to the documentation that detail how OptiSystem integrates optical systems supporting digital modulation techniques, including DPSK, OQPSK, and QAM.
In addition to a simple guide for the recently added virtual basic scripting capabilities, detailed examples of co-simulation with Matlab and Excel have been added for beginners.
