Frontier Communications Corp. (Rochester, NY) and Pirelli Cables and Systems North America (Columbia, SC) announced that Frontier will deploy Pirelli`s dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) equipment on the Frontier Optronics Network. Frontier is the first in the industry to use this new hyper-dense system to create gigabit routes on its existing fiber between its 20 most heavily trafficked markets. Frontier will initially deploy a 32-channel Pirelli TeraMux hyper-dense WDM system on its network, scheduled for completion this spring. The TeraMux system is scalable to 128 channels carrying OC-192 (10 Gbits/sec) per channel.
