WDM enhancement
The Optical Switch Unit is an enhancement to the WaveMux Hyper Dense WDM platform. The unit allows service providers to switch individual wavelengths to a protection path as different traffic types may require. For example, if a service provider is carrying a mix of SONET and ATM or IP over WDM, the SONET protection function provides protection for the SONET channels and the optical switch unit covers the non-protected ATM or IP channels. Detection and switching occur in less than 50 microsec, according to the manufacturer.
