Infinera Cloud Xpress

March 17, 2015
Cloud Xpress seeks to address power, space, and bandwidth demands as content providers and data center operators seek to bring the cloud closer to users. The platform provides up to 21 Tbps of I/O bandwidth per rack.
Cloud Xpress positions Infinera to be a leader in the rapidly expanding data center interconnection market by providing leading capacity, low power consumption, a data center-friendly form factor, simple provisioning, and low cost per Gbps transported. Judge's Comment.

Cloud Xpress seeks to address power, space, and bandwidth demands as content providers and data center operators seek to bring the cloud closer to users. The platform provides up to 21 Tbps of I/O bandwidth per rack. This is delivered in an integrated network appliance that incorporates a 500G photonic integrated circuit for line optics and low-power QSFP+ client optics while using less than 0.5 W/Gbps of I/O.

While traditional optical platforms were built for telcos, Infinera designed Cloud Xpress with data center operators in mind. It is a fully integrated, “rack-n-stack” appliance with 500G of I/O capacity per RU and is 4X denser than its nearest competitor, the company says. Activation is done with three steps via Command Line Interface, a GUI-based DNA Network Management system, or a customer's SDN controller.
