Telefónica Germany, Coriant test 100G, 150G, 200G on 10G DWDM fiber network

Coriant says it supplied its Groove G30 Network Disaggregation Platform to Telefónica Germany for use in a field trial that explored the ability to support 100-Gbps, 150-Gbps, and 200-Gbps optical transmission rates over 10-Gbps DWDM dispersion compensated fiber-optic network links. The trial saw the carrier use Coriant's platform to inject high-speed alien wavelengths on the network.

The demonstration, conducted earlier this year, used three live links in Telefónica's 10G DWDM fiber network, spanning distances of 1,070 km, 630 km, and 290 km and connecting such major network sites as Düsseldorf and Frankfurt. The trial saw successful transmission of 100-Gbps wavelengths across all three links, 150 Gbps on the 630- and 290-km routes, and 200 Gbps on the shortest route.

"The challenge of managing ever-increasing demand for network capacity without incurring escalating operating expenses requires innovative approaches to high-speed optical transmission," said Michael Haeberle, director of Transport & Fixed Access, Telefónica Germany. "We were very pleased with the performance of the Groove muxponder solution throughout the multiple test cases performed as part of this trial. Groove's compact 1RU form factor, power efficiency, and ease-of-use were particularly valuable in helping us successfully achieve our trial objectives."

Telefónica Germany plans to conduct another alien wavelength trial over its 100-Gbps fiber-optic backbone network in the middle of this year.
