Midco scales its fiber-optic network to 100 Gbps via Infinera XTM Series
Internet service provider and cable operator Midco has deployed the Infinera (NASDAQ: INFN) XTM Series for 100-Gbps transport to support metro aggregation services and interconnect Midco's recently acquired data centers. Through the acquisition of Dataware, Midco now operates data centers in South Dakota that accommodate customers needing Tier 2 or Tier 3 facilities and plans to expand into other areas.
With 8,400 fiber miles, Midco operates one of the largest fiber-optic networks in its Upper Midwest service region, delivering services to urban and rural areas. This is Midco's second collaboration with Infinera, after using the Infinera DTN-X platform to upgrade its long-haul network last year. This latest upgrade enables Midco to extend into the metro to offer customers an end-to-end transport network supporting metro Ethernet services and connecting its data centers with 10-Gbps, 100-Gbps, and Fibre Channel transport services.
"The XTM Series was easy to install and we were able to use the Digital Network Administrator to control our Infinera end-to-end network from long-haul to metro with a single management system," says Jon Pederson, chief technology officer at Midco.
